Mission

The Koreatown Planning Committee Board, Inc. (KPCB) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization seeking to establish, maintain, and develop the officially designated Koreatown in Maryland (by state and county governments).

Visual and Impact

The incoming Koreatown is expected to boost tourism, foster economic and fiscal growth, and promote the unique Korean American culture and history through businesses and community members.

Construction

The Koreatown will be a 5-mile stretch towards the east and west from the Korean Way on Route 40. Each of four “Hanok” traditional Korean palace-style gates with pillars and a tiled roof will be constructed on the right and left side of the Baltimore National Pike at each end of the Koreatown. These Hanok gates will be completed by Korean national living human treasures, specialized in Korean traditional carpentry, in Korea without using any nails and transported to Maryland for the final assembly. This Koreatown with these gates will be the first of its kind in the United States. The raw materials used in Hanok, such as soil, timber, and rock, are all natural and recyclable and do not cause pollution.

The Koreatown will transform its surrounding area to be vibrant, healthy, and wealthy. Cultural exhibitions, festivals, and landmarks will make the area be a destination for local, domestic, and international tourists and residents offering memorable experiences. Small businesses including restaurants and entertainment venues will prosper the local economy and generate jobs. Educational initiatives welcoming any Marylanders will share the stories of Korean Americans settling down in the area over the last decades; they will be recognized as a significant part of the rich history of Ellicott City; and the community’s legacy will be kept alive and passed to the next generations which Marylanders and the world would learn and appreciate.

We Need Your Support for the Pillar Gates.

Financial support and sustainability are essential for the Koreatown project.  We weigh in grassroots fundraising. We believe in its importance and power. Grassroots fundraising demonstrates that our community, not just some individuals, and our united voice desire the Koreatown.  Every single dollar matters. Each of you is counted. You are an important stakeholder. You will make the future of Korean Americans and Maryland brighter.

Please donate. Please advocate. Please engage your community members from our state and the nation to support us by donating as much as they can.
